Get Real

Well there is nothing new in this story here in the Telegraph. This has been going on for years. The extent of it has of course grown out of all proportion and should now be severely curtailed. If trade union members want full or part time work place representation, then they should pay for it, not the taxpayer.

This is outrageous. We cannot afford it.

  1. The whole issue is fraught with difficulty but I see where some people are coming from on this. Seconding staff to work on union activities in support of the workforce should probably be paid for by the unions and their members but could make union membership prohibitive. In social care it is a very good idea to belong to a union because, believe me, social care public sector management are very quick, aided and abetted by their HR chiefs, to shaft the social care worker at the first opportunity. My instincts tell me that, even though there is an argument for changing this, this is not the right time to do it as public sector workers are likely to find themselves getting shafted left right and centre and will need good experienced reps who work in the system.
